The mound is modest, reaching no more than 0.6 metres at its highest point on the south-western side, and its outline is irregular and ovate rather than neatly defined. What makes it worth pausing over is the slight hollow at its centre, with a narrow extension running towards the north-western edge, which may mark the position of an ancient trough.

This is a fulacht fia, a type of monument found in considerable numbers across Ireland and dating in most cases to the Bronze Age. The typical interpretation is that these sites were used for cooking by the hot-stone method: stones were heated in a fire, then dropped into a water-filled trough to bring it rapidly to the boil. Over repeated use, the stones cracked and shattered, and the discarded fragments accumulated into the characteristic horseshoe-shaped or ovate mounds that survive today. The burnt and fire-cracked stone exposed on the summit and flanks of the Lecarrow mound is precisely this kind of accumulated debris. The site's position on a small islet between two channels of the same stream would have made water supply immediate and reliable, which is a feature commonly associated with fulachta fía, many of which are found close to watercourses, springs, or boggy ground. The mound measures roughly seven metres on its longer northeast to southwest axis and just under five metres across. It lies close to at least one other recorded monument in the area, suggesting the broader landscape around Lecarrow saw repeated human activity over a long period.
