Tombs & Memorials
Inside the ruins of a church at Castletimon in County Wicklow, two flat graveslabs lie where they have rested since at least 1723.
Graveslabs of this kind are horizontal stone markers, typically inscribed with a name, date, or memorial text, and laid directly over or near a burial within a church interior. Their presence inside the building, rather than in the surrounding graveyard, would once have indicated a family of some local standing, as indoor burial was a privilege associated with wealth or patronage of the church.
