Graveyard, Ballybroughan, Co. Clare

Burial Grounds
In the townland of Ballybroughan, in County Clare, there is a graveyard that exists more fully in the landscape than it does on paper.
It is a recorded monument, classified and counted, yet the details that would ordinarily accompany such a site, its age, its extent, any ruins or enclosures it might contain, remain formally undocumented in the publicly available record. That absence is itself a kind of provocation. Clare is a county of extraordinary funerary archaeology, from early medieval enclosure cemeteries to post-Reformation parish graveyards folded into older sacred ground, and Ballybroughan's site belongs somewhere in that continuum, even if precisely where remains unclear.
