A ringfort, to give the basic shape of it, is a roughly circular enclosure defined by one or more earthen banks, typically associated with early medieval settlement in Ireland. Most were farmsteads. What makes this site quietly interesting is not the ringfort itself but the layering of occupation within it: a subrectangular house site sits near the centre of the enclosure, defined by its own earth and stone bank and with what appears to be an entrance facing east. Two further possible house sites lie against the inner face of the ringfort's bank, one to the north-north-west and one to the south-south-east.

The site sits on a slight rise in gently undulating, rocky pasture, the kind of low, modest elevation that early builders consistently favoured, offering drainage and a degree of visibility without the effort of a dramatic hilltop. The date of the house structures is listed as indeterminate, which is an honest acknowledgement of how difficult it is to assign a period to surface remains without excavation. The ringfort itself carries its own separate record, suggesting the house sites and the enclosure have been studied as related but distinct features. Whether the central house and the two peripheral ones represent a single phase of use or accumulated over time is something the surface evidence alone cannot settle. The pattern of a central structure accompanied by ancillary buildings ranged around the interior is not unusual in Irish ringfort archaeology, but seeing three possible house sites preserved together within one enclosure gives this particular field a certain density of human residue.
