Off the coast of County Mayo, on the island known as Inis Gé Thuaidh, the remains of a medieval house survive as one of those quiet anomalies that accumulate on the edges of the Irish Atlantic world.
Island settlements of this kind are rarely well documented, and the simple fact that someone built, occupied, and eventually abandoned a permanent structure here raises more questions than the surviving record can currently answer.
