Corbelled construction is an ancient technique in which stones are laid in overlapping horizontal courses, each projecting slightly inward over the one below, until the rings close at the top without any mortar or keystone. The result is a self-supporting dome of dry stone, and this example at Baile Na Habha stands 1.7 metres high with an internal diameter of 3.8 metres, compact but not cramped by the standards of early Irish stone shelters.

The hut sits at the south-eastern edge of a D-shaped enclosure measuring roughly 17 by 18.8 metres across its outer edge. The enclosure boundary has largely vanished, surviving only as very fragmentary wall traces and a scarp, though the raised interior ground level still marks out the space clearly enough. Inside the hut, four definite wall niches have been identified, with two more possible ones, small recesses built into the thickness of the wall and likely used for storage or to hold lamps. Directly to the west, vaguer traces suggest a second hut may once have stood nearby. The site was recorded by J. Cuppage in the 1986 Dingle Peninsula Archaeological Survey, a comprehensive catalogue of the Corca Dhuibhne region that brought many such quiet structures to wider attention for the first time.
