The hut site measures roughly twelve metres in diameter, a modest footprint that nonetheless places it in the company of a landscape that has been organised, occupied, and reworked by people across many centuries. It is not the kind of feature that announces itself; it sits quietly within a large field system that appears, from aerial photography, to belong to multiple distinct periods of use.

What makes this particular site quietly arresting is its relationship to its neighbours. Two wedge tombs, a type of megalithic monument built during the late Neolithic and into the Early Bronze Age, lie within close reach: one approximately sixty metres to the north-east, another around one hundred and forty metres to the south. Wedge tombs are gallery-like stone structures, typically wider and higher at one end, that were used for burial and likely for ritual purposes. The proximity of the hut site to not one but two of these monuments raises questions that cannot yet be answered with certainty. Was the dwelling contemporary with one or both of the tombs? Did later inhabitants settle here precisely because the landscape already carried some significance? The field system enclosing all of this adds another layer, suggesting that the plateau at Baur was productive agricultural ground as well as, at various points, a place of the dead.

The site is visible in aerial orthophotography, which is how it came to be identified in the first place, but on the ground it reads as a subtle earthwork in ordinary-looking grazing land. Visitors approaching the area should expect rough, unimproved pasture rather than anything formally marked or enclosed.
