Settlement Sites
In the townland of Commons in County Clare, there is a recorded hut site, a remnant of early human occupation that has been formally identified and logged as an archaeological monument but whose details remain, for now, largely out of public reach.
Hut sites of this kind are among the more quietly prevalent features of the Irish landscape, the surviving traces of simple, often circular structures used for shelter, seasonal habitation, or pastoral activity, sometimes dating back to the Bronze Age or early medieval period. They tend to appear as low earthen platforms, shallow scoops in the ground, or faint rings of stone, easy to overlook and easily mistaken for a natural undulation in the terrain.
