The structure is small, roughly five metres across on its north-south axis, and its full shape remains unknown because the eastern portion has been absorbed entirely into the thicket. What can be seen are two short sections of wall, built from upright slabs around three-quarters of a metre tall and a metre wide, their tops just visible above the sod. It is the kind of place that could pass unnoticed by anyone not already looking for it.

The site sits at the foot of a north-west to south-east limestone terrace, a characteristic feature of the Burren-style geology found across Clare, where shelving pavements of carboniferous limestone create natural terraces and sheltered pockets in the landscape. Recorded by Carey in 2009, the structure is described as subcircular, a shape commonly associated with early medieval or prehistoric hut sites in Ireland, where rounded enclosures of dry-laid stone once served as the walls of small dwellings or shelters. The marshy ground to the west suggests the site occupies a transitional zone, limestone bedrock on one side, waterlogged terrain on the other, which may partly explain the hazel colonisation that has since obscured it. What period the hut dates to, who built it, and for what purpose remain open questions.
