Settlement Sites
In the townland of Curraheen in County Kerry, a structure old enough to be formally recorded as an archaeological monument sits quietly in the landscape, known to the official record but not yet fully described within it.
It is classified as a hut site, a category that covers a broad range of early habitation remains found across Ireland, from the stone footings of seasonal shelters used by transhumant farmers to the more permanent dwellings of early medieval communities. The fact that it has been mapped and designated at all suggests something survives above ground, or at least enough that fieldworkers considered it worth marking.
