A circular stone enclosure on a ridge in mid Cork, barely six metres across, sits in reclaimed pasture without any trace of it on the Ordnance Survey maps drawn in 1842.

That absence tells its own quiet story: whatever this structure was, it had already fallen out of use or recognition by the time Victorian cartographers were walking the land, and it lay unrecorded until archaeologists came to catalogue it much later.

What remains is modest but legible. A collapsed and much-repaired stone wall, roughly a metre high and just over a metre wide, traces a circle 6.1 metres in diameter. A narrow entrance, about a metre across, faces the south-east, and a drain runs through the base of the wall on the southern side, suggesting the interior was managed against waterlogging. The repair history visible in the fabric of the wall hints that someone, at some point, found it worth maintaining, though whether for habitation, animal shelter, or some other purpose is not recorded. About two metres to the north lies a souterrain, an underground stone-lined passage or chamber of the kind commonly associated with early medieval settlement in Ireland, often used for storage or refuge. The proximity of the two features is unlikely to be coincidental, and together they suggest this corner of a Cork ridge was once a more organised and inhabited place than its current condition implies.
