The outline is modest, roughly four metres east to west and just under four metres north to south, with the ground raised about forty centimetres above the surrounding surface. At the centre there is a slight depression, the kind of hollow that often forms where a hearth once sat or where generations of feet wore the floor down. A faint projection along the eastern arc hints at where the entrance may have stood.

A rath is a ringfort, the enclosed farmstead of an early medieval Irish family, typically dating to somewhere between the seventh and tenth centuries. They are common across the Irish countryside, though many survive only as crop marks or faint earthworks. What makes this particular site quietly interesting is the layering: a domestic hut set within the enclosure, and immediately to the south, the possible remains of a souterrain. A souterrain is an underground stone-lined passage, usually associated with ringforts and thought to have served as storage space, a refuge, or both. The combination of the hut platform, its probable entrance, and the adjacent underground structure suggests the remains of a small but coherent farmstead, the kind of place where a family would have lived, stored food, and sheltered livestock during the long early medieval centuries.
