On a gentle south-east facing slope at Murorgán, above the wide curve of Brandon Bay in County Kerry, a small circular structure sits half-dissolved into the hillside.

It is easy to walk past without registering what it is; the eastern half of its wall has long since settled into a low, grass-grown swell in the ground, and the interior has been significantly disturbed over the centuries. What remains legible is modest but telling: a drystone inner face on the western side, surviving to just under sixty centimetres in height, and a roughly circular space of 4.3 metres in internal diameter. The entrance, now lost, is thought to have opened from the eastern sector of the wall.

The structure sits on the upper terrace of what appears to have been a two-level enclosure, itself probably the remains of a cashel, a type of early medieval stone ringfort typically enclosing a homestead or small farmstead. The hut-site abuts the enclosing bank to the west, suggesting it was built as an integral part of the compound rather than a later addition. The site was documented by J. Cuppage in the 1986 Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey, a systematic study of the Corca Dhuibhne region that catalogued the remarkable density of early remains across this part of west Kerry. That density is not coincidental: the Dingle Peninsula was a significant zone of early Christian and prehistoric activity, and the landscape around Brandon Bay in particular carries layer upon layer of occupation, from promontory forts to ecclesiastical enclosures. This small hut-site, ruined and largely unreadable from a distance, is one quiet thread in that longer fabric of habitation.
