In the townland of Primrosegrange, on the southern fringes of County Sligo, there survives the remains of a kiln, a structure whose presence quietly marks out this patch of landscape as a place where people once worked with fire and raw materials.
Kilns of this kind, used historically for burning limestone to produce agricultural lime or for drying grain, were once a common feature of the Irish countryside, yet most have crumbled into the hedgerows or been absorbed into later field systems. That one is recorded here at all is a small reminder of how much low-key industrial and agricultural activity has left its trace across Ireland's townlands.
