A holy well that was dry when surveyors came to record it is a quietly pointed detail, and it says something about the gap between a place's ceremonial life and its current condition. This well in Brackagh, on the western foot of a low hill in County Kildare, was once a site of active devotion, yet what greets a visitor today is a compact stone well-house, circular in plan with an internal diameter of just 1.5 metres, rising to a height of 2.4 metres and capped with a flat concrete roof. A plain lintelled doorway, less than a metre wide, opens to the west, with steps descending into the semi-subterranean interior, a design that keeps the well chamber cool and sheltered, typical of the more substantial well-houses built or reinforced in the post-medieval period.

The devotional history attached to the site is tied to two specific occasions. An Ordnance Survey letter compiled by Herity records that stations were performed here on Lady-Day in Harvest, the feast of the Assumption on 15th August, when crowds would complete a pattern, a circuit of prayers walked around the well and any associated stones or markers, often barefoot. Jackson, writing in the late 1970s, confirms that a pattern was held here in August, suggesting the tradition persisted into living memory or at least recent oral record. The dedication to Our Lady, encoded in the well's name, places it within a large family of Marian wells across Ireland, many of which absorbed older pre-Christian associations with water and healing into the calendar of Catholic observance. There is also a second holy well approximately 500 metres to the south-southwest, which raises the possibility that this part of Brackagh was once a more extensive sacred landscape, though the relationship between the two sites is not recorded.
