Only one of these buildings survives today: a plain, roughcast structure of 1846 that has since been a museum, a coffee shop, and is now empty. What remains is unusual less for its ornament, of which there is almost none, than for its survival at all, and for the way its scarred walls still tell the story of how power and produce once moved through a working mill.

The building is a multiple-bay, two-storey former corn mill with a three-bay extension set on a split level to the west and a two-storey return to one side. Its slate roof carries cast-iron rainwater goods and a sandstone eaves course, with a timber louvred vent at the apex to help ventilate the grain floors below. The walls are roughcast rendered, functional rather than decorative, in keeping with the way mill buildings across Ireland were generally finished: plainly, since their purpose was industrial rather than showy. What catches the eye instead is the irregular fenestration, windows and openings of varying sizes and positions, some fitted with timber louvres and one with a cast-iron lattice window, alongside plain battened doors at ground level. These were not aesthetic choices but practical ones, dictated by the need to move corn and milled product into and out of the building at different stages of processing. A set of scales still hangs from a bracket on the west gable, a small but telling survival of the mill's working life. To the north stands a second mill building, moved from its original site and reconstructed here in 1995, alongside wrought-iron gates leading into a yard bounded by rubble walls.

Set against the historic line of the mill race, the mill's location does more than provide a scenic backdrop; it demonstrates directly how water was once harnessed to generate the energy that drove milling machinery in the town, a system that shaped where such buildings could be sited and how they were laid out internally. As the last of Cavan's five mills to remain standing, it offers a rare physical link to that vanished industrial landscape, its plain walls and awkward, practical openings preserving details that more polished buildings of the period would never have needed to include.
