Megalithic Tombs
At Carrowmore in County Mayo, there is a megalithic structure that sits quietly in the landscape, largely unrecorded in any publicly accessible form.
Unlike its more famous namesake in County Sligo, one of the largest and oldest concentrations of megalithic monuments in Ireland, this Mayo Carrowmore has left almost no paper trail that a curious visitor can follow. The monument exists, it has been noted, and yet the details of what it is, how it was built, and who built it remain effectively out of reach for now.
