Megalithic Tombs
In the townland of Prebaun in County Mayo, a megalithic structure sits in the landscape, its stones arranged by hands working perhaps five thousand years ago.
Megalithic monuments, a broad category covering everything from portal tombs and passage tombs to court cairns and standing stone alignments, are scattered across the west of Ireland in remarkable numbers, many of them still only partially documented. This one at Prebaun is among those that have not yet been fully brought into the public record, which places it in a curious position: formally recognised as a monument, but largely silent on its own details.
