Megalithic tomb, Faunarooska, Co. Clare

On the limestone plateau of County Clare, at a townland called Faunarooska, the remains of a megalithic tomb sit in the landscape as they have for several thousand years.

Megalithic tombs, built from large stones during the Neolithic and Bronze Age periods, served as collective burial monuments and, in many cases, as focal points for the communities that constructed them. What makes sites like this one quietly compelling is less their grandeur than their persistence, the fact that these arrangements of stone have outlasted everything else that surrounded them.
