Measuring roughly 14.4 metres in length, 2.4 metres wide, and only 0.8 metres high, it runs on a northeast to southwest axis and occupies the interior of what remains of the surrounding earthen bank. Mounds of this kind within ringforts are relatively unusual, and their purpose is not always clear; some have been interpreted as burial markers, others as structural remnants of earlier or later activity on the same ground.

The enclosure it sits within is a univallate rath, meaning a ringfort defined by a single encircling bank rather than multiple concentric rings. This one has suffered considerably from agricultural activity over the centuries. Fieldbanks have cut into it on the southern, eastern, and northwestern sides, leaving only a curving arc of the original earthen bank intact along the northern to southeastern stretch. That surviving arc gives the whole site a cropped, incomplete quality, as though someone had taken a compass to a circle and removed more than half of it. C. Toal's North Kerry Archaeological Survey, published in 1995, recorded the site in this condition, and it appears to have remained largely unchanged since.
