Penitential station, Coskeam, Co. Clare

On a gentle northward slope in Coskeam, County Clare, a solitary circular cairn sits quietly in the landscape, roughly 1.8 metres across and 1.5 metres high.
Cairns of this kind, built from heaped stone, served as penitential stations, stopping points along sacred routes where pilgrims would pray, circle the mound, or perform other devotional acts. This one does not stand alone in its function, though it is set slightly apart from its companions.
