On the 1930 edition of the Ordnance Survey six-inch map, a hachured area marks the ground at Corrspark in County Galway.
Hachuring, the cartographer's shorthand of small radiating lines used to suggest broken or disturbed terrain, indicated something worth noting, though the map itself gave no further explanation. When the site was visited in 1984, that ambiguity resolved into something rather more ordinary: a disused sand and gravel quarry, long since abandoned and returned to quietude.
