On a low hummock in the undulating pastureland of Feaghbeg, there is an irregularly shaped hollow that once puzzled mapmakers enough to mark it down, though nobody was quite certain what it was.
On the 1944 to 1945 revision of the Ordnance Survey six-inch map, it appears as a hachured feature, the conventional cartographic shorthand for a depression or earthwork of some kind. It took a physical inspection, carried out in 1984, to confirm that the hollow is simply a quarry, worked at some point after 1700.
