In the gently undulating pastureland of Garra, County Galway, there is a quarry that no longer exists, yet remains on the map.
The 1932 edition of the Ordnance Survey six-inch map marks a roughly rectangular quarry at this location, a small but deliberate feature in the landscape, the kind of working site that once supplied local stone for walls, roads, or buildings. When someone went to inspect it in 1985, they found it had been infilled, the hollow smoothed over and absorbed back into the surrounding farmland.
