Mining
In the pastureland of Keeloges, a shallow depression in the ground has accumulated a modest paper trail across the better part of a century.
On the Ordnance Survey six-inch map from 1931, the spot appears as a hachured area, the cartographic convention for showing a hollow or disturbed surface, while an earlier OS plan surveyed between 1912 and 1916 names it plainly as a Gravel Pit, already disused by the time the surveyors came through. When someone visited in 1984, they confirmed what the maps had long suggested: a pit, abandoned, sitting quietly in the fields.
