Quarry, Kill, Co. Galway

Mining
Near the townland of Kill in County Galway, a disused quarry sits quietly in the landscape, the kind of place that registers as a slight oddness in the terrain before its origins become clear.
Quarries of this type were once a common feature of rural Ireland, cut into local stone to supply building material for roads, field walls, and farmhouses in the surrounding area. When the work stopped, they were simply left, gradually softening at the edges as vegetation crept back in.
