Mining
In the townland of Killuppaun in County Galway, there may or may not be a hole in the ground.
That modest uncertainty is, in its own way, rather interesting. On the 1948 revision of the Ordnance Survey six-inch map, a hachured feature appears at this location, hachures being the short radiating lines cartographers use to indicate a depression or slope in the terrain. The feature has been interpreted as a possible quarry pit or hollow, though no one has visited the site to confirm what is actually there.
