Quarry, Kilnamullaun, Co. Galway

In the townland of Kilnamullaun in County Galway, two features share a quietly unremarkable patch of ground: a disused gravel pit and a natural spring well.

That combination, a worked hollow left by extraction and a water source that predates any human intervention, is more common in the Irish landscape than many realise, and yet each pairing carries its own local character, shaped by whoever once dug there and whatever use the well was put to across the years.
