Mining
At Kylenagappa in County Galway, there is a disused gravel pit, quiet and unassuming, of the kind that punctuates the Irish countryside without demanding much attention.
Gravel extraction was once a routine part of local rural infrastructure, supplying material for road-making and construction across townlands where such resources lay close to the surface. When the work stopped, these sites were simply left, gradually softening back into the landscape around them.
