Mining
On the edge of Tomany Beg in County Galway, there is a disused gravel pit that has quietly outlasted whatever practical purpose it once served.
Gravel extraction of this kind was once a routine feature of the Irish rural landscape, supplying material for road-making and local construction, and the pits left behind when the work stopped tend to fade into the land around them, gradually reclaimed by grass and water.
