The structure here is a cashel, a type of ringfort built from dry-stone walling rather than earthen banks, and it takes a distinctly square plan, measuring 32 metres north to south and 32 metres east to west internally. That geometric regularity, uncommon in the Irish ringfort tradition, is not immediately obvious on the ground. The site sits on a slight rise within a dense thicket of whitethorn, blackthorn, and briar, and what was once a substantial perimeter wall, somewhere between five and six and a half metres wide, now survives mostly as a collapsed and overgrown rubble spread rarely exceeding a metre in external height.

The cashel was already present in the landscape when Ordnance Survey mappers recorded it on the first edition six-inch map in 1842, and it was noted again on the later Cassini edition of 1920, suggesting reasonable visibility at that point despite whatever decay had already set in. Today the wall remains are slightly more substantial along the south and west sides, hinting at where structural survival has been marginally better. A separate enclosed site lies roughly 77 metres to the west, raising the possibility that the two features were once part of a broader organised use of this small elevated area, though the relationship between them is not established. The views from the rise extend reasonably well to the north-west, east, and south before higher ground closes things off, which may partly explain why someone chose this particular spot in the first place.
