A cashel is a type of ringfort defined by a stone rather than earthen enclosure, and this one is a quiet survivor. Writing in 1901, the antiquarian T. J. Westropp described a group of four ring-walls in the area, each roughly 100 feet in diameter, noting that three had been levelled and the fourth was nearly gone. This is, in all likelihood, that fourth one.

The enclosure is roughly circular, measuring just over 25 metres north to south and nearly 23 metres east to west internally. Its boundary combines a drystone wall, between one and 1.6 metres wide at the base, with a bank of earth and stone running from the north-west to south-east. The outer facing of the wall survives best on the south-west to north-west arc, where it still stands to around 1.4 metres. Later field walls have been built directly onto the original cashel wall on the south-west and north-west, so the monument's line has been quietly reused by successive generations of farmers working the same upland ground. The interior is grass-covered and slopes gently eastward. The cashel appeared on the first edition Ordnance Survey six-inch map of 1842 and was marked again, with hachuring to indicate relief, on the Cassini edition of 1915. About 70 metres to the north-east, a second cashel is clearly visible, and the whole area sits within a large associated field system, suggesting this was once a deliberately organised upland landscape rather than an isolated enclosure.
