This particular example, measuring 25 metres in internal diameter, consists of a weathered earthen bank that forms a small circular enclosure. Time and the elements have taken their toll; the defensive ditch, or fosse, that once surrounded the bank has been largely absorbed into modern drainage systems. Despite its worn appearance, the site offers a glimpse into early medieval Ireland, when thousands of these fortified farmsteads dotted the landscape. A second ringfort crowns the hilltop to the northeast, suggesting this headland was once home to a small farming community.

Archaeological testing in 2001 revealed little about the site's past inhabitants. When developers planned to build a pumping station nearby as part of the Rossnowlagh Sewerage Scheme, archaeologists excavated a test trench close to the ringfort. After clearing away gorse, scrub and topsoil, they found only the natural grey gravel layer beneath, with no artefacts or features to shed light on who might have lived here or when the ringfort was actively used.

The ringfort was first properly documented in 1983 as part of the Archaeological Survey of County Donegal, a comprehensive catalogue of the county's ancient sites from the Mesolithic period through to the 17th century. While this particular ringfort may seem unremarkable compared to grander archaeological sites, it represents the everyday lives of Ireland's early medieval population; farmers who chose this elevated position for its defensive advantages and views across the Atlantic, building their homes in the traditional circular style that defined rural Irish settlement for centuries.
