What makes it worth pausing over is precisely what it lacks: no masonry, no visible fosse, no legible entrance. The original way in has been entirely lost, and the bank itself has been interrupted in several places by small disturbance gaps accumulated over centuries. A modern stone wall runs just outside the bank from west to south, a later imposition that sits beside the older form without quite belonging to it.

Ringforts, sometimes called raths when they are earthen rather than stone-built, were the dominant form of rural settlement in early medieval Ireland, typically dating from roughly the fifth to the twelfth centuries. Most were farmsteads, their enclosing banks serving as a boundary against livestock straying, predators, and neighbours, rather than as serious fortification. This example, surveyed in 1971, measures approximately 33.8 metres across on its northwest to southeast axis and 31.8 metres on the northeast to southwest, making it a reasonably substantial enclosure. The interior still bears traces of cultivation ridges running roughly east-northeast to west-southwest, suggesting the ground was worked at some point after the rath's original function had ended. A single large stone protrudes from the interior, its significance unclear. The site slopes gently from northwest to southeast and commands good views to the west and north, a positioning that was rarely accidental in early medieval landscape choices.
