The site sits in level pasture, and what greets the eye is modest: a slightly raised circular area roughly 26.5 metres across, edged on its western, northern, and eastern sides by a low bank of earth and stone, somewhere between 8 and 9.5 metres wide and barely 0.6 to 0.8 metres above the surrounding ground. The southern half has been destroyed entirely and leaves no trace at surface level, so what remains reads less as an enclosure and more as a partial arc in the grass.

A ringfort, or rath, is the most common type of early medieval settlement monument in Ireland, typically the enclosed homestead of a farming family, defined by one or more circular earthen banks. This particular example was recorded on the first edition of the Ordnance Survey six-inch map in 1837, where it was marked as a complete circular enclosure and labelled simply "Fort", the standard shorthand used by early OS surveyors for such earthworks. By 1986, when the site was examined more closely, an external fosse, a surrounding ditch that would have added an extra layer of definition to the enclosure, was still detectable, and the survey at that time proposed that the original entrance had likely been positioned at the north-east, a common orientation for ringforts. Neither the fosse nor any clear trace of the entrance is visible today.
