A rath, to give it its Irish name, is a type of enclosed farmstead typical of early medieval Ireland, usually defined by one or more circular earthen banks that once marked the boundary of a family's dwelling and livestock. Here, that circularity is mostly a memory. What remains is a D-shaped raised area, roughly 23 metres east to west and 17 metres north to south, sitting on the northern slope of a low east-west ridge. The southern half of the original circle has been levelled entirely, and a modern field fence now runs along the straight southern edge where the enclosure's bank once curved round to complete the form.

The site was already recorded as a circular enclosure on the Ordnance Survey's six-inch map of 1837, so even at that date it was old enough to be treated as a landscape feature rather than a functional structure. The surviving northern arc of the bank is modest, around 4.4 metres wide and only 0.6 metres high, and at the west-northwest it has been further reduced to a slight scarp. More interesting is a fragment of a secondary embankment at the northeast, roughly 2.5 metres out from the foot of the main bank, which retains some stone facing on its north side. This detail suggests the site may once have had more structural complexity than the current ground surface implies. A field boundary now bisects the interior on a roughly north-northwest to south-southeast line, a later agricultural division that cuts straight through what would have been the enclosed living space of an early medieval household.
