Thousands were built between roughly the fifth and twelfth centuries, typically serving as enclosed farmsteads for a single family and their livestock. What makes this one quietly interesting is the degree to which its original plan can still be read in the landscape, despite centuries of agricultural use pressing in around it.

The enclosed area measures about 24.4 metres in diameter, ringed by a bank of earth and stone. That bank is modest in height, rising between 0.2 and 0.6 metres on the interior and somewhat more prominently on the exterior, between 1.5 and 2 metres, which gives a reasonable sense of how the site would have presented itself to an approaching visitor in its working life. Outside the bank runs a fosse, a defensive ditch roughly 3 metres wide, though it survives in clearly legible form only along the northern half of the circuit. A modern field boundary now follows the outer edge of the fosse from the west-south-west around to the north-north-east, the kind of quiet continuity that suggests farmers across the generations found the old earthwork a convenient ready-made boundary. The original entrance is still identifiable: a stone-lined gap, about 1.8 metres wide, on the eastern side of the bank, east-facing entrances being a common feature of Irish ringforts. A short distance south of the centre of the enclosed area, a small linear bank survives, roughly 3 metres long and 0.4 metres at its highest point, its original purpose uncertain but possibly a remnant of an internal division or structure.
