A causeway crosses the outer ditch on the south-south-west side, wide enough and solid enough to suggest a deliberate entrance point, yet there is no corresponding gap in the earthen bank it leads to. Whoever last modified this structure, or whoever recorded its slow deterioration over the centuries, left behind a feature that seems to promise a way in but delivers none.

The site sits on a small natural terrace on an east-north-east facing slope, positioned to catch good views towards the north-east, which was likely part of its value to whoever built it. Ringforts, sometimes called raths, are enclosed farmsteads of early medieval Ireland, typically dating to roughly the sixth through twelfth centuries, and were built by individual farming families rather than as communal or military structures. This example takes a sub-circular form, approximately twenty-three metres across on its north-south axis, enclosed by a low earthen bank and a wide, shallow external fosse, the fosse being the ditch that runs around the outside. The bank is now fragmentary and appears to have been artificially steepened at some point, suggesting the site was modified or maintained after its original construction. Inside, traces of cultivation ridges run north-east to south-west across the interior, which rises gently towards the centre. These ridges indicate that the enclosed ground was used for agriculture at some stage, either during the fort's active life or long after it fell out of use as a domestic enclosure.
