What makes this particular example quietly telling is how modest it has become. The enclosing bank, originally built from earth and stone, now stands only about 0.2 metres above the interior ground level and 0.4 metres above the exterior, barely enough to interrupt the rough, undulating pasture around it. At roughly 24.8 metres in diameter, the enclosed area would once have sheltered a farmstead and its inhabitants, the bank serving as a boundary marker and a modest defence against cattle theft or opportunistic raiding rather than any serious military threat.

Raths of this kind were built and occupied primarily between the sixth and twelfth centuries, though many continued in use well beyond that period. The internal stone kerbing still faintly visible here suggests that the bank was faced or reinforced with stone on its inner edge, a detail that would have given the structure greater definition and durability. What has obscured that original form is a familiar rural process: farmers clearing their fields of loose stone have piled the material around the perimeter over generations, thickening and blurring the bank until the rath's original dimensions are difficult to read from ground level. The undulating pasture that now surrounds it is rough and unimproved, which has at least spared the site from the ploughing that has erased so many comparable earthworks elsewhere in Ireland.
