Ringforts
On a gently rising slope in the low-lying grassland of Knockaunkeel in County Galway, there is a ringfort that has spent centuries quietly losing the argument with the surrounding landscape.
What was once a substantial enclosed settlement is now classed as poorly preserved, its original form legible mainly to those who know what to look for: two earthen banks, a ditch between them, and the ghost of an entrance.
