The rath, as this type of ringfort is commonly called, is subcircular in plan, measuring roughly 44 metres east to west and just under 42 metres north to south, and it is defined not by a single boundary but by two stone-lined banks with a fosse, or ditch, running between them. That doubled boundary is significant; a bivallate ringfort of this kind would generally have indicated a settlement of some social standing, the extra line of defence and the labour required to construct it marking out the enclosure from the simpler, single-banked raths that were the norm across early medieval Ireland.

The structure is in fair condition, though time and the slow work of weathering have left their marks unevenly. The inner bank survives well from the north-east, around through the east and down to the south, but elsewhere it has been reduced to a scarp, a sloping face of earth and stone rather than a full raised bank. The outer bank has fared worse on the western and north-western sides, where it no longer survives at all. One detail that sets this site apart from a simple ruin is the gap at the east-south-east, which appears to be an original entrance rather than a later breach. That a deliberately placed threshold can still be read in the landscape after so many centuries gives the enclosure an unexpected coherence, a sense that its basic logic remains legible even now.
