The site is a univallate rath, meaning a ringfort enclosed by a single bank and ditch, the kind of settlement that farmers and small-scale landowners built across Ireland throughout the early medieval period. What lifts this one slightly out of the ordinary is not its outer boundary but what lies within it.

The enclosing bank survives reasonably well on most sides, standing about 1.5 metres on the outside and just under a metre on the interior face, with a width of around 2.2 metres and an external fosse, or ditch, reaching a metre in depth. The interior measures roughly 25 metres north to south and 26 metres east to west. A modern field boundary has cut across the eastern side, obscuring what may have been the original entrance. Inside, a low semicircular earthen bank curves across the southern half of the site, meeting the main enclosing element at the south-south-east and south-west. Whether this internal feature was built at the same time as the rath itself, or added later for some separate purpose, remains unclear. More intriguing still is a circular fionnán enclosure almost at the centre of the site, just 4 metres in diameter. A fionnán enclosure is a small ring of the coarse grass known as fionnán, or white bent grass, which often marks a subsurface feature, sometimes a burial, sometimes something else entirely. Seven further enclosures of the same kind lie just to the north of the rath, clustered in the immediate area, suggesting this stretch of the Iveragh Peninsula held some significance that extended well beyond the farmstead itself.
