What was once a ringfort, one of the thousands of circular enclosed farmsteads built across Ireland during the early medieval period, has been so thoroughly flattened by centuries of agriculture that it now survives mainly as a colour. From aerial photography, the site appears as a faint light-green circular cropmark in the pasture, cut across at its southern edge by a field boundary that shows no awareness of, or interest in, what lies beneath it.

The basic outline of the site can still be pieced together from historical mapping and earlier observation. The 1837 Ordnance Survey fair plan map annotated the spot simply as 'fort', suggesting the earthwork was at least partially legible to surveyors at that time. By the revised 1913 edition of the OS 25-inch map, it was recorded as a roughly circular area approximately 29 metres north to south and 28 metres east to west, defined by a scarp. A scarp, in this context, is a gentle slope or step in the ground marking the edge of a former bank or enclosure. By 1971, the visible evidence had diminished further; a ground-level description from that year recorded a circular area of around 22 metres in diameter, defined not by any earthwork but by a ring of grass roughly 3 metres wide that differed in shade from the surrounding vegetation. That discolouration is thought to represent the ghost of a fosse, the encircling ditch that would originally have ringed the fort, now long since filled in. No trace of an entrance was recorded, and the interior carries only a slight southward slope, set on a low natural rise in otherwise undulating pasture.
