Spread across an area roughly 320 metres by 145 metres, the site consists of enclosures, hut sites, and field walls, the kind of organised domestic and agricultural landscape that speaks to settled, everyday life rather than ceremony or defence. What makes its position quietly unusual is that it sits just outside the northern rampart of one of the large contour forts of the Wicklow uplands, a contour fort being a hillfort whose defensive boundary follows the natural shape of the hill rather than being imposed upon it regardless of terrain.

The relationship between the settlement and the fort beside it raises questions that the landscape itself cannot easily answer. Was the community sheltering in the lee of that boundary, drawing some comfort or authority from the larger enclosure? Or did the two features simply accumulate over time, each generation making use of what the slope and the existing earthworks offered? Tom Condit, writing in 1992, identified the cluster through aerial photography, recognising the crop and soil marks for what they were: the compressed remains of enclosures and walls that no longer protrude above the surface in any obvious way. The site covers enough ground to suggest a functioning agricultural settlement of some scale, with distinct zones for habitation and land management, though the precise period of occupation is not recorded in the available sources.
