Local memory holds that roads and house foundations were visible here before the site was levelled around 1947, an act of clearance that effectively erased what would have been a readable fragment of an earlier community from the physical landscape.

What the levelling could not entirely remove is detectable from above. Satellite imagery captured in January 2019 reveals two concentric, slightly curving banks, each running for approximately 160 metres and separated by a gap of around 20 metres. Features of this kind, parallel enclosing banks set around a habitation area, are associated with clustered rural settlement in Ireland, where small groups of households sometimes shared a common defensive or boundary arrangement. The plateau position, looking down a steep slope to the valley floor, would have made this a practical and well-chosen location, offering both visibility across the landscape and access to the river below.

The 1947 levelling places the destruction within living memory, which gives the site an unsettling proximity. Whatever stood here, whether field boundaries, hollow ways worn by repeated foot traffic, or the low walls of abandoned houses, was considered inconvenient enough to be removed within a single generation of people still alive today. That the underlying earthworks survived at all, faint enough to require satellite analysis to confirm, suggests the original construction was substantial.
