Settlement Sites
In the townland of Luffertan in County Sligo, there survives what archaeologists classify as a settlement platform, a levelled or artificially raised area of ground that once formed the foundation for human habitation.
These features are easy to overlook in the landscape, lacking the dramatic silhouette of a ringfort or the obvious stonework of a cashel, yet they represent some of the most direct evidence we have of where ordinary people actually lived, worked, and organised their daily lives in early medieval or later prehistoric Ireland.
