Standing stone, Cappaboy More, Co. Cork

Some ancient monuments announce themselves clearly, rising against the skyline and drawing the eye from a distance.

The standing stone at Cappaboy More in County Cork does the opposite. It has fallen, it lies on level ground at the base of a south-east-facing slope, and there is no visible surface trace remaining. To all practical purposes, the monument has disappeared back into the landscape it once marked.
