Stone rows are among the more enigmatic monument types left by prehistoric communities in Ireland. Unlike the dramatic circles that tend to attract more attention, a row of three stones can feel almost accidental until you notice the careful gradation in scale. At Baunoge, the southernmost stone was originally the tallest, standing around 1.5 metres, though it is now shattered. The central stone is subrectangular in form and reaches 0.9 metres, while the northernmost, oval in plan, stands at 0.85 metres. Together they span just under six metres. The stones are rounded granite, which is typical of the West Galway landscape, and their shapes suggest they were selected rather than dressed or worked into precise forms. The north-to-south decrease in height is a feature recorded at other Irish stone rows and may carry astronomical, ceremonial, or territorial significance, though no consensus has settled on a single interpretation.
