The site sits within a moated enclosure, a type of medieval feature found across Ireland in which a roughly rectangular area of ground was surrounded by a ditch and bank, often associated with the residences of Anglo-Norman settlers or local Gaelic lords. When surveyors visited in 1993, they found the interior scattered with sod-covered hummocks and low banks, subtle disturbances in the ground that hinted at walls, divisions, or structures long since collapsed. The shapes were ambiguous enough that no clear pattern could be read into them, though the possibility remained that they were the compressed remains of buildings or internal yard boundaries.

Twelve years later, when the site was visited again in 2005, even those modest traces had gone. Whatever had been visible in 1993, whether through changes in vegetation, ground disturbance, or simple weathering, was no longer detectable. What the 1993 inspection recorded amounts to a brief window onto something that had already nearly vanished, and that has since vanished entirely from the surface. The moated enclosure itself remains a registered site, but the interior features that once prompted closer attention appear to have been absorbed back into the field.
