Nine shallow cuts in the earth, arranged in a semicircle, are all that remained of what archaeologists believe was a temporary shelter, roughly 4.7 metres east to west and just 1.8 metres north to south. That is barely wider than a single bed is long, a space not meant for permanence but for pause.

The structure came to light in 2007 during excavations carried out ahead of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme. Post-holes and stake-holes, the telltale impressions left when upright timbers rot away or are pulled free, formed the arc of what would have been a rudimentary curved shelter, with a single post-hole at the centre of the arc suggesting some kind of internal support or focus. Three pits were found nearby. One contained burnt bone, which may point to cooking or some form of activity involving fire and animal remains. Another held a piece of struck flint, that is, a fragment of stone deliberately knapped to produce a sharp edge, a technology associated with prehistoric occupation across Ireland. Together these finds, modest as they are, suggest the site was used, however briefly, by people who lit fires, butchered or consumed animals, and worked stone. The excavation was published by Jennings in 2009 and 2010, and the site sits within a wider landscape that the road scheme uncovered in considerable archaeological detail.
